Foxboro FEMA Buyout

On Monday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced plans to buy 11 residential properties across St. Louis County in an effort to protect local residents living in flood-prone areas.

Five of the properties, located in the Foxboro neighborhood in Ladue, have been hit particularly hard by flooding in recent years, most notably last year in July of 2022. Nearby, one home on Conway Road is also slotted to be torn down. The six homes all border Deer Creek, and are located in the 100-year floodway as specified by St. Louis County zoning.

The money, totaling $3.6 million, comes from grant funding. It will go towards buying out the six single-family homes and tearing them down, a process that will likely begin unfolding over the next few months. Once the homeowners agree to a buyout price and the homes are torn down, the land is required to be maintained as a perpetual greenspace.
